Today was a day of fairy tales. We went to a ski resort town named Sinia and visited the castle of King Karl, a German prince who became the first King of Romania in 1866. The castle was like in a fairy tale, inside and out. Actually much of the traditional Romanian architecture reminds me of fairy tales. I wouldn't be surprised if they used this area in the movie "The Brothers Grimm."
Earlier in the day we had a little tour of Brasov. We visited the synagogue and the the medieval Lutheran Church. The syngagogue was warm and light. They even had a Kachelofen. The Lutheran church was cold, dark and musty. It had it's own beauty though. I imagined the thousands of worshippers that have walked the cold stones. The carpets that were displayed added their own charm. They seemed to be gifts from people who had done trading business with Turkey many years ago. Brasov had over 40 guilds. Maybe some of them. We sang the first part of the Sanctus in that building. It was beautiful. It filled the place with warmth. We wished we could have had our concert there.
Concert tomorrow in Bucarest.
